The S&C Line-Rupter Switch is a group-operated switch that uses three independent sealed-for-life interrupters with integral disconnects. It is exceptionally suited for unique mounting applications, including transmission line tower mounting, existing substation structure mounting, and inverted mounting.

Each pole-unit of a Line-Rupter Switch includes a brain which provides built-in positive sequence control . . . and a fully enclosed stored-energy source dedicated solely to operation of the interrupting unit which is in the circuit at all times. Close-and-trip mechanisms are fully enclosed and protected, too. There are no external linkages, lever arms, cams, shunts, etc. that must be coordinated with a disconnect blade to accomplish circuit interruption. Positively sequenced operation is assured regardless of severe weather conditions such as high winds, rain, sleet or snow.

Line-Rupter Switches are available in three-pole vertical-break style and are intended for upright or vertical mounting on a structure, or upright mounting on S&C Mounting Pedestals, or pedestals furnished by the user. Line-Rupter Switches include a manual operating mechanism with geared operating handle. Alternately, for remote supervisory control, power operation can be provided with an S&C Switch Operator - Type LS-2.

high-speed switch operator for Line-Rupter Switches

Type LS-2 Switch Operator is a high-speed operator especially designed for Line-Rupter Switches. (Maximum operating time of 2.2 seconds.)

The operator features a sturdy welded enclosure with baffled louvers that allow air circulation, but keep out rain. The interior of the weatherproof, dustproof enclosure is accessed by a hinged door . . . rather than removal of the entire enclosure.

The Type LS-2 Switch Operator includes:

  • Eight-pole adjustable auxiliary switch contacts, coupled to the motor
  • External trip and close push buttons with padlockable cover
  • Built-in manual operating handle for the disconnect
  • Decoupling mechanism that allows decoupling and locking of the disconnect in the open position
  • Mechanical position indicator
  • Non-resettable operation counter.

Optional features for the Type LS-2 Switch Operator include:

  • Additional auxiliary-switch contacts
  • LED position indicating lamps
  • Remote-control blocking switch
  • Space-heater thermostat
  • Duplex receptacle with ground-fault circuit interrupter, and convenience light lampholder with switch.
  • Key interlocks
